Marketing as an Employee: Resume

Welcome back, let's get into Resumes! First, I want to throw out some information about resumes-it is important to do the best job you can with it. The reality of resumes is that when an employer puts out a request for a resume, they easily get at least ten resumes. Assuming the person is actually reading them all, and not having a machine sift through the resumes for the "most relative ones", you have 30 seconds to get the readers attention before they decide this is worth reading or I have read enough. With that said, let's get you an awesome resume.

Components of a Resume:

Header: should be in place already, please see the previous blog to explain what should be there.

Tag line: use three adjectives and the appropriate title in the tag line to give them a basic preview of you.

Education: you can list college and high school, and any other education you have received.

Volunteer: if this is applicable to you, fill this out.

Skills/Programs/Languages: lists any skills you know, any programs you know how to use, and any languages spoken with your level of ability.

Experience: Listing when, where, title and some information about what you did at the jobs is helpful.

Footer: should be in place already, please see the previous blog to explain what should be there.

Some have even said that it is a good idea to look at the ad of the job you are applying for and mimic the language in the ad, so that when the machine scrubs your resume for "relevance" you would rank higher. Being as thoughtful as you can in filling out the resume makes the interview that much more satisfying to the employer! Let's come back next week for our Reference page!
