SEO: Image Names

Thus far we have discussed Metadata Description and Back Links - both of these aspects are dependent on content to be successful. To simplify it, content can be classified as two categories: Images and Content. This week we are going to discuss Imagery as content.

There are multiple reasons you would post images on your website, social media pages, and just about everywhere else that calls for it. Initial reasons that you would post images associated with your business would be for adding them to your website and posting on social media - but after your initial reason is sated, the reason you post the photos is for google. If you upload a good image and name it properly, google will associate it with it's subject matter and show up when other people search that particular subject.

A couple of really important things to note with images:

1. Quality: For print, you want high res big photos-for online you want high res but smaller photos. So they load quicker.
2. Names: Do not name it with just numbers, no spaces in names use "_", caps or no caps is irrelevant
3. Types: there are multiple types of image types but the main two are .jpg and .png (I like these for clear backgrounds)
4. Properties: If you right click on the photos, whether on your computer or within sites-you can access properties and fill them in with information such as: Title Text, Alt Text, Author, Date, Copyright, Etc.

In this day and age, information is power. The more information you can provide or embed into something - the more legs it has to working branding power for you. True the dark side of the information age is that there is so much information out about you that one must be careful, but for business-you must put yourself out there and take some risk. Let's talk Text content next week.
