SEO: Back Links
Welcome back! Speaking of back, we left off at Back Links didn't we? Let's pick up where we left off.
Before I explain what back links are, I would like to invite you to think about the following scenario:
Our good friend Google is having a costume party, it is like a happening party. You are wondering if you are going to get invited, since the theme also happens to be what you do-costumes. With every party, there are always those people that get invited that have nothing to do with the theme-but there are no parties without them. For this party that would be Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter.
a. So there you are hoping to get an invite-if you don't know anyone there and google doesn't know you-you are Out of Luck.
b. But let's say google knows of you, you are on the bottom of the list, and assuming someone else does not come in, you may get allowed in.
c. But wait, google knows me and so does Facebook - well you are a little higher on the list now. Better odds.
d. Or let's say your that costume person that Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and even that random site that only 3% of the population is on knows you-guess what...You just shot to the top of the list.
Now, I know what you are thinking, what does the google party have to do with my SEO? SEO is a web, the search engine has an easier time finding you when you have a massive web of back links. Back links would be you having a website, a Facebook page, a LinkedIn page, and a Twitter Page. See the below visual to see if it helps you understand this concept better:
Moral of the story is, create yourself some back links. Social media pages are great for this, a website with multiple (yet useful) pages helps, as well as properly formatted Press Releases that link you to other sites such as News Sites. I do have a word of warning for this tale, some people think-all I need to do is create all these profiles and I don't need to update them, them just being there is enough right? No....creating the pages is half the battle, the other half is keeping them updated with content so that your "Google Status" is maintained.
We will get to content, as that pops up often when talking about SEO-but before we get into text content- I would like to talk about Images. Images are everywhere; on websites, social media, press releases, products, etc. Most people think uploading the image is enough. But why upload the image and not give it every chance to work for you- by properly naming? We talk images next week.
