Photography Masterclass: Part 2
Let's jump into section 2 out of 5 in our series on Photography Masterclass by Paul Lowe!
Things:
Going as far back as paintings of fruit, things have always been an important part of imagery or photography. Photographs as an art form really give us the chance to breath life into things, or give meaning to things they would not otherwise have-while creating an image which is a thing itself!
Examples:
Man Ray - Dust Breeding
Laszlo Moholy-Nagy - Photogram
Edward Weston - Pepper #30
William Eggleston - Untitled
Martin Parr - Ramsgate
Alec Soth - Two Towels
Peter Fraser - Untitled

Faces:
When most people close their eyes and try to picture it, they can pretty much imagine what makes up a face. The human face and body has been a comparison point for all time to compare art and how it has finessed as we get more and more of a grasp on it, even today. The face of a person is their profile photo or preview to the world of who they are or were.
Examples:
Julia Margaret Cameron - Lago, study from an italian
Nadar - Sarah Bernhardt/Self Portrait
Lisette Model - Woman with a Veil, San Fransisco
Harry Callahan - Eleanor, Chicago
Paul Strand - Young Boy, Gondeville, Charente, France
Norman Parkinson - After van Dongen
Eve Arnold - Malcom X during his visit to enterprises owned by black Muslims
Brian Griffin - Siouxsie Sioux
Mary Ellen Mark - Homeless Damm Family for Life, Los Angeles area
Bruce Gilden - New York City, Woman walking on Fifth Avenue
Henry Borden - Richard E. Grant
After reading this section, my photographic response is:
I really liked some of the reference photos in these two sections. I personally liked Henry Borden and Man Ray. Join me next week as we get into section 3-Bodies and Ideas.
