Ad Development

I recently came across came across an ad that needed to be redesigned, but was not mine, so redoing it under those circumstances can be tough but I will go over a simple guide on how to design or fix an ad to be as effective as possible!

Original Image before Redo

1) Fonts: The above flyer has 3-5 different fonts in it. The most fonts you should have is 3:
a. Logo Font - a special font maybe used in your branding & logo
b. Header Font - A complimentary font to be used for headers and titles
c. Body Font - Complimentary to the header font but with multiple variations, like Helvetica.

2) Colors: A good flyer has 5 colors MAX (including Black and White), so our example above has:
 a. Black
b.White
c. Blue
d.Gray
e. Red
Also, make sure the colors you do have are complimentary as a whole!

3) Information: The information should read, within a minute or two, all of the following info:

a. Who - who is hosting or who does it address? (Typically 1/4 of the page)
b. What - name of event or product (Typically 1/4 of the page w/When & Where)
c. When - date of event (shared with above)
d. Where - Location of event or company (shared with above)
e. Why - Explain or show why someone should go to the event (Typically 1/2 of the page)

4) Layout: You can go in the order of Who to Why - top to bottom, or play with layout. Be sure to make good use of your negative space.

Redo using the guide

I find this to be readable and still similar enough that it just ends up being a cleaner version, and not a completely different flyer. Go ahead and try the guidelines out and let me know how it helps!
