Magic in Business: Runes

Last week of the magic month. I use magic a little bit more appropriately when talking about Runes. These things are, probably, as old as Norse mythology. But that's just as far back as any historian can trace these things back to, its quite possible that these are older than that. Due to my Germanic heritage, I was able to pick these up very quickly and find them to be very interesting little things.

Besides that, runes themselves have been through so much in history that to think that as much about them have survived is a minor miracle. Runes in any language means secret or mystery. So if you assume everything happens for a reason, these were made to be a little mysterious.

Runes, Magic, Heathenism, The Middle Ages, Divination

Some things for business that struck me as inspiring were a couple of things. They existed before a language and not only turned into a language of their own, but they connected to various cultures each with its own language. No matter what one particular language called it, it all has the same meanings and root. And always bigger than themselves, the highlight of any set of runes is never the material, but the artist themselves. The artist would carve on the runes, "ARTIST Was Here".

All this to say: In business, strive to connect with language in a way that transcends all cultures to expand your customer base. Even if all your cultures you serve call you something different, never change in essence. Finally, have your product or experience have an everlasting effect that continues to honor the company (or artist) that made it possible.
