Story Me Social: Facebook

From Polls to story's! There is truly never a dull day in the world of Social Media! Maybe that is a huge part of the reason so many people use it and come together on it! Now, before we compare the story aspect of Facebook and Instagram-which I know are both owned by the same person, so it is a bit of an odd comparison-but the story function actually came from Snap chat. No other social media platform has incorporated the story aspect into its workings like Twitter or LinkedIn.

Now that we know a bit where the function comes from, we must ask ourselves, why would we keep our Story's up to date? Why would we view other peoples story's? Whether you follow your friends, family, celebrities & comedians alike, or even groups-any one of the previously mentioned Facebook entities can update their story. Scrolling down your Facebook feed is something that takes more time as there are ad's you can't even pay to not see, so if you are on break per say, and want to see what your friends are up to-you can just watch all their updates in a matter of minutes, be caught up, and then go back to work. Story's give the content of Facebook another leg to stand on, and in my opinion a cleaner leg.

So, now we are convinced we are going to try and update our story, as well as view our friends story's. How do we do this? This is a Mobile App feature and Desktop feature. But if you see the way it appears once you do update your story, you will see it is more applicable from a Mobile App point of view.

Mobile Viewing of Story
Whether you are on your Mobile or Desktop, the process to add to your story is the same. Start on the News feed screen and start to write a post. Below the option bar, you will see two option: News Feed and Your Story, as well as permission (who do you want and not want seeing this). You can select one or both; some things can only go on your feed and some can only go on your story-you will see the options fade out accordingly. Once everything is in place, press Share.

Now, there are multiple places to view stories others have posted, on Desktop if you are on your News Feed you can see the Story Column on the right hand side of the screen. On the Facebook App, The Story section is just below the What's On Your Mind? section. The last place, and probably the most important is the Facebook Messenger App. If you open your Facebook Messenger App, you can see a Story Bar below the search bar and above your messages. The reason that this is the most important, is because when you interact with someones story-the Like or Love or Reaction is actually sent to the person (with a copy of their story) as a message on Messenger.

Now that we have looked at Facebook, join me next week as we review Instagram. Until then!
